rojo zappatos

Do you have any sayings or inside jokes with your friends that have been around for so long that you don't even remember exactly how they came into being?

These are my new red shoes -
felted ballet flats with bows.
I love red shoes;
they make me really happy.


Every time i put on red shoes i exclaim Rojo Zappatos! in a rather loud manner.
Why? you ask.
Great question.


Here's what i remember:
- it was the mid/late 90's
- i was visiting Rea in Arizona
- we had gone to see a huge fountain in the middle of a pond or lake, someplace around Phoenix, i think
- there was a really ugly black duck
- we ended up at the playground, laughing hysterically, calling out  rojo zappatos while swinging

I seem to think we saw someone wearing red shoes.
How did that turn into us screaming rojo zappatos on the swings?
I have no idea anymore.

When i put on these great new shoes the other day i was upset that i couldn't remember the whole story of the rojo zappatos.
 Dang my aging brain! 
Dang getting older! 
Dang, dang, DANG!

But then i realized that the details of the story aren't nearly as important as the fact that rojo zappatos still make me smile, thinking of my BFF.

When one is walking along a busy thoroughfare in a bustling Northern Virginia suburb next to a construction site one does not expect to see random footware lying about.
  Especially when it is a holiday and there are no construction worker's feet anywhere to be seen.
Not to mention, who in the world would wear flip-flops at a construction site?
There are some mysteries that we may never solve.

dressing rooms make me nauseous

I really don't like shopping for clothes and try to do it as little as possible (you might recall that i recently bought fun socks cause i was wearing ones that were 15 years old). So when i do shop, i like to get it all done at once: Thursday after work and before i left for the conference i stopped into Fashion Bug to get some pants, only to discover that they were having a "Buy One, Get One For 99 Cents" sale. Two and a half hours later i left with: -purple flats -brown shoes -blue work shoes -brown boots -black boots -a skirt -a sequin tank / sweater set -black dress pants -2 pairs of jeans (blue and brown) -3 sweaters (burgundy, blue, black with silver) -4 long sleeve shirts (white, burgundy, purple, navy) And best of all i shouldn't have to go shopping again for a while. Except that i need khakis for work... boohiss
