a learning experience

I know you have all been balanced on pins and needles counting down to my Etsy store's re-opening tomorrow so i am sorry to say that i am going to delay it until Monday.
I bitched and moaned and procrastinated about writing descriptions, but in truth they haven't been that hard, just tedious. Where i made my big mistake was in seriously miscalculating the time needed for photography. Earrings are kind of a pain to photograph and it take lots and lots of snaps to get the pic i then need to edit and crop to Etsy's specified size.
I only got 2 hours of sleep trying to bust this out for tomorrow and i've decided it isn't woth it. I could have something uploaded for tomorrow; in fact, i could everything uploaded, but i know in my heart i would be compromising the quality to make the deadline.
And which is more important?
It is important to stick to my timelines, but if i am going to do this, i am going to do it right.
So cross out that date on your calendar (or you know, change it in your phone if don't live in 2007 like me) and write in NikCo Re-Opening, October 15, 2012!
See you then.

you wanna take 350 pictures of me in a row?

uh yeah... i guess that's okay...

Thanks to fTM Amy for modeling today.
I promise that only a few make you look like you've just realized that you're about to be abducted by aliens...

thanks for everything, Ginny

This morning fTM Erin's mom was called home after her long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Ginny was full of smiles and spirit and music.
She always made me laugh.
I was blessed by her sponsorship for my Emmaus walk.
Though we will all miss Ginny she leaves behind a legacy of kindness and adorable grandsons.
Thoughts and prayers to Erin and her family.

concentrating on today

I woke up this morning flipping out.
Do you realize that is already October?
Do you realize that it is almost the second week of October?
Two of  my six months of The Plan are gone. That is one third, one third of my time gone.
Where did it go?
Yes, i've designed and created a second jewelry line and staged a pretty awesome booth at my first craft fair and turned the corner mentally on being self-employed instead of unemployed and helped a charity auction and driven across the entire continent, but somehow it didn't feel like enough laying in my bed trying to set priorities for today.
My Etsy store is supposed to reopen in 5 days - that's FIVE DAYS INCLUDING TODAY.
I had myself convinced that this was folly, that i am going to run out of time and money, that it makes more sense to find some boring, stable job with health insurance and a 401K.
What do you do when you are afraid and self-defeating?
I allowed myself to roll around in the waters of despair for about an hour, got up, did some crunches, meditated, prayed, put on music i love, ate moni cheese and looked for a quote in my commonplace book (since i havn't changed the Glimpses in the sidebar for about 3 weeks now; did i mention that i have 39 posts in the blog queue waiting to be finished?) to add a little perspective to the day. I found what i was looking for from Christopher Paolini's Eldest:
'You can do nothing about your condition, and you'll only make yourself feel worse. Live in the present, remember the past, and fear not the future, for it doesn't exist and never shall. There is only now.'

Former rolling majesty,

The Cat Trip - Day 3

Last Monday i woke up in Beloit, WI down one cat (intentionally) and ready to collect more new states, but still a little sad about missing the Cheese Castle. Imagine how happy i was to look out the window and see this:
Across the street from our motel was this gem.

Cheese, fireworks AND gifts?
Yes, please.
Could it get any better?

How about a giant mouse on the roof, a silly pun on the sign and a hand carved badger at the door?

It's like i'd come home.
And cheese... boy, howdy was there cheese:

Hunks of cheese aren't really car friendly snacks so i got a little sample platter and a magnet and it was road time.

We had to go back into Illinois to hook back up with the highway west that would give me the most new states and i would like to say this about that: Illinois, you suck. Why all the dang tolls? I managed to do the entire trip on highways without tolls except for Illinois.
Around 2:00 we hit Iowa - NEW STATE!

Iowa is the transition state between the mid-west and the heartlands;
i know this because of the trucks. There were more trucks than cars, more trucks than people, more trucks than corn. In fact, i saw a huge red thing that looked like a pick-up mated with a Hummer; it was a Ford F-650.
A 650?!?
I didn't even know that they went past 350's. Is there a 450 or a 550?

Also Iowa boasted the World's Largest Truck Stop.
We didn't go inside, but i had to pull into the expansive parking lot to do a cat transition.
And that is about all Iowa had to boast. I'm sure Jason will be quick to point out all of the amazing things in Iowa City there might have been to do and see, but from the highway at 70mph there wasn't much to comment about.

Just past nightfall countryside gave way to the city of Council Bluffs and we crossed the Missouri River into the city of Omaha.
they are serious about their trains here, just ask Colleen
We all know that Omaha is in Nebraska, but there is no Welcome to Nebraska sign on I-80.
Really.
There was tons of Omaha stuff as we drove through the city, but nothing to indicate that we were actually in Nebraska; in fact, it was like Omaha didn't want to admit that it was in Nebraska. It was sort of like the city fell from the sky cause at the edge of town we went right back into complete country: no suburbs, no sprawl, just city and then no city.

There was finally a rest stop to verify that i had indeed collected a NEW STATE.
YIPPEE!

We stopped for the night at an EconoLodge outside Lincoln, NE on Cornhusker Highway. Yes, i slept on Cornhusker Highway, which amused me greatly.
At the local Perkins i found sweet potato fries that were crinkle cut and my day was complete.

Day 3: Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska; 516 miles
