Dedication

This is a picture from inside the dry car. We swung by the Farmer's Market in Howard County figuring no one would be there, but by jiminy there were actually 6 vendors set up in the parking lot despite the monsoon. Who can ignore that kind of dedication? I got soaked, but i also got the YUMMIEST sugar snap peas i've ever eaten. I also braved some asparagus and will be attempting to cook it for myself for the first time. Feel free to leave any asparagus tips you might have.

For asparagus -- cut off the bottom "hard" part (you probably knew that already), and then our favorite recipe is just to toss it in olive oil and Cavender's spice, then cook in the oven (on a cookie sheet) for about 10 minutes. Yum!! If you don't have Cavender's, 1) we'll get you some when you visit, and 2) the Weber grill cookbook recommends tarragon and a little onion powder.

We also make a super-easy asparagus-blue cheese pasta (although we usually do that with canned asparagus) -- let me know if you want the recipe for that.

A favorite easy option of mine is to steam the asparagus (until it's very green but not flaccid or mushy) and mix honey and mustard together to make a dipping sauce.

P. S. -- When I do that I usually leave the bottom part on and use that as a holder, which allows me the pleasure of eating all the good stuff with my fingers and then throwing away the chewy stringy stuff at the base. I do realize, however, that not everyone enjoys eating with their fingers as much as I do.
