freedom

I took off most of this week. It is interesting being forced to take some time off; at first i was too busy feeling crappy (physically and mentally) to enjoy it, but being POed slowly wore off and now i am revelling in it. I spent time in the studio for the first time in... hmmmm... i'm not sure how long. It felt fabulous. I finished a new wall word for the living room.
It is my first oval canvas. They are more expensive than square, but i totally dumpster dove this one from the antique store. Originally it was an interesting forest perspective by someone named Bernice, then it was in the trash, then i saved it and put on 2 layers of antique white to prepare it for another life, then it sat in the sunroom for almost 2 years.
I'm really happy with the way the painting evolved : it is a mix of 4 acrylic paints (2 purples, a pink and a green) and 1 metallic ink (purple). It dried darker than i wanted so i put on a shiny finish that added a brightness and more interesting brush strokes : The pictures are all perspectives of the ocean - next to it, on it and under it. I was able to use some found objects, my favorite being a piece of abalone that i hung from a tackle swivel. Slowly, but surely the wall is coming together. At this pace i will feel it will be "finished" in about 10 years.
